Tens of millions of animals are killed in factory farms every year in the USA alone (USDA)
Veterinarians use similar anesthetics on animals to those used on people. They also agree that animals feel pain just like humans (IASP)
Factory farming conditions are very unsanitary, and led to a Salmonella outbreak in Iowa along with many others (CNN)
Factory farming has been shown to be contributing to global climate change and general pollution (PETA)
Vegetable farming is more efficient, and could therefore decrease world hunger. It takes 25 gallons of water to grow a pound of wheat, but it takes over 2,000 gallons of water to grow a pound of beef, among other resources (PETA)
Chickens have about half a square foot of living space each, so they cannot move around. Even if they had that free space, they have been so heavily genetically modified that most have lost the ability to walk (Horrigan et al.)
Pigs, in tight spaces, are generally more aggressive, and will attempt to bite off each others tails. To combat this problem, factory farmers will take special scissors and cut the tails off with no anesthetic (USDA)
